Advanced Backgammon Strategies

In the opening moves, it is a good policy to stay with tried and tested standard moves. These include such moves as 3 and 1 to make the 5 point (inside your home table), 6 and 1 to make the 7 point (bar point), 4 and 2 to make the four point and 6 and 5 to move your back checker all the way to safety.

Make the bar and 5 points as early as possible as these make it more difficult for an opponent to escape your home table plus gives you more of an advantage when you hit.

If possible, hit your opponent in the away board as it will slow their ability to get all their checkers home before you.

Avoid making your ace point early on, as it puts your checkers out of action and closes the most advantageous point prom the perspective of forcing an opponent’s hit checker to re-enter there.
