Backgammon Basic Strategy

With backgammon, the basic strategy is to get all your checkers into your home table and “beared off” or removed from the board before your opponent does. The first player to bear off all their checkers wins the game.

You can either rely on the roll of the dice to give you better moves than your opponent, or you can use hitting tactics to keep as many of your opponent’s checkers out of play as possible. This strategy can work extremely well especially if you can hit two or more of your opponent’s checkers and they roll several unlucky numbers which prevent them from getting back into play. This tactic involves some risk, especially if you leave two or morel blots of your own as this will leave you exposed to retaliation from an opponent should they be more fortuitous in their own dice rolls.

In addition to this hitting strategy, it is also important to close as many points as possible, especially in your home table and particularly the seven point.
