Backgammon is a board game for two players. The board is divided into four areas called tables, each with six long triangular markers, called points. The area closest to you and to your right is generally called the home table. Each player has fifteen checkers (or counters), either black (sometimes red) or white, which are assembled on the board in a set fashion spread out along certain points. The game is played with a pair of dice to designate how many moves a player may make with their checkers, with the object being for a player to move all of their checkers to their home table before their opponent can and then bearing off all their checkers first. The home table is usually the fourth division closest to the player on the right of the board, although there are variations on board set-up where home is on the left. |
