Caribbean Stud Poker Strategy

Putting together a good strategy in Caribbean Stud can be quite complicated, but there are two generalisations that can be made which will cover most hands.

   1. If you hold a pair of better, always raise
   2. If you have less than what is stipulated as the dealer’s qualifying hand (ie ace/king), always fold

The ace/king hands can be quite tricky. Generally, it’s best if you have three high singletons or that the dealer's up card happens to be a jack or lower and it matches one of your cards. This reduces the likelihood of the dealer forming a pair.

To improve your chances in Caribbean stud, try the following strategy. It will result in a house edge of 5.225%.

In addition to the previous two points where you should always raise with a pair or better and fold if you have less than ace/king, you should also raise on ace/king should any of the following rules apply:

   1. The dealer's up card matches one of yours and is a 2 through queen
   2. You hold a queen or jack and the dealer's up card is an ace or king
   3. There is no match between the dealer's rank and any of yours, you hold a queen and the dealer's up card is lower than your 4th highest card.
