You will often hear of players using this or that betting system to improve their chances of winning at a certain casino game. Some swear by their chosen system and play almost exclusively in the belief that it will increase their overall winnings. Others choose to play with their skill and wits alone, in the belief that these will overcome the house edge and lead to a greater chance of winning. However you approach your gambling one thing should always be born in mind. Almost without exception, all betting systems are seriously flawed as they do not take into account the basic rule of any game of chance. That is that each new action such as the roll of the dice, or spin of the wheel is independent of the previous one and as such any value or combination is possible and is not reliant on the result of any previous action. That means if you were to bet on an even-money game, say red or black in roulette and you bet on red, you have an approximate 50/50 chance of red winning. In reality these odds are slightly less because of the house edge, but ignoring that for the moment, it doesn’t matter if black came up the previous ten spins of the wheel, the next spin and the next hundred spins can all come up black because each spin is an independent entity and can go either way. Many betting systems make use of the law of averages to suppose that if red comes up ten times then black must come up the nest ten times to balance things out. Like flipping a coin the results come up randomly and statistically should, by the law of averages be fairly even over a period of time. But in gambling, that does not have to be the case. Here are the most popular betting systems: Positive Progression is where you increase your betting each time you win Insurance Betting is where you decrease your bet each time you lose Negative Progression is increasing your betting when you lose They all have some merit, although in the long run, the only constant is that you will lose because of the house edge unless there is intervention by luck, in which case you will win. |
