As with most games, experience and practice count for much and Omaha is no different, as it is an easy game to learn, yet a difficult one to actually master. The best strategy while learning Omaha is as follows: To win at Omaha, it usually takes a hand that is only bettered by hands such as quads or straight flushes, as these killer hands rarely show up in an average game. Two pair and even trips don’t win all that often, so you need to go for the straight, flush or full house most of the time. The reason for this is that each player’s four card hand potentially holds six Hold’em hands when they’re converted to all combination possibilities of two because two from four cards are played plus three from the board. To be in a pot with another five players means the equivalent of sitting in a Hold’em game playing against thirty other players! Even if you have a good hand to start, if it can be beaten by other two card combinations there is a strong likelihood there is at least one in someone else’s hand. With two cards plus three from the board, there are plenty of possibilities especially if the board holds three of the same suit or a pair for someone to make a flush or full house. |
