One lucky pensioner who loves playing online casinos from her home in Kimberly, South Africa recently hit the jackpot and celebrated a win of over R8 million. However, she is now claiming the casino group who own the site where she won have fleeced her by skipping an agreed payment instalment. Marie van Wyk, who is a grandmother and 66 years old, won the jackpot in November and was awarded an 8.5 million rand giant mock cheque for the cameras. The actual payout was meant to be divided equally into six monthly instalments, each of R1.4 million. She received the agreed sum from the African Palace Casino for the first two months, totalling R2.8 million but the payment for April did not manifest. So far, she has not heard anything else from the company that operates the gambling site and fears that the instalment due this month is also going to be defaulted on. She said that she is a frequent gambler and has won several times in the past at online casinos, but she has never had her winnings paid in instalments. She tried to force the company to pay by threatening to expose them publicly, for which a lawyer’s letter was sent to her. It said that some workable solution could be found without any need for airing grievances publicly. The finance manager of the African Palace Casino, Tagore Dhanraj has refused to comment, saying only that the company is attempting to bring about a resolution. Marie van Wyk is quite a prolific winner, having previously won R64000 from the same casino. In addition to this, she was one of the very first of the instant millionaires at the Monte Casino in Johannesburg back in 2000. That time she won an incredible R1.4 million. Paying substantial jackpot winnings in monthly instalments is common practice with many online casinos and each has its own terms which are often clearly set out in the payment schedules published on reputable online casino websites. You should always make yourself familiar with all terms and conditions, rules and membership details of any online casino that you intend to become a member of and place real money wagers at. Reputable casinos are those that publish their full set of rules and terms of membership and are happy to give further details via their customer services. |
