This week saw the House Ways and Means Committee look at online gambling tax proposals. Here are seven reasons to support online gambling.

Following the hearing related to the online gambling industry, it is clear that while there is strong support for legalisation of the industry, there still lies a long and hard road ahead before it can become a reality. One panel comprised Rep. Barney Frank as well as Congressman Jim McDermott, who have both introduced legislation that is designed to bring about the legalisation and government regulation of Internet based poker and online gambling. The IRS and the Treasury made up another panel.
 
The hearing was told that the legalisation of the industry would have positive effects on the country. This included its social systems as the lion's share of the money generated by the industry is leaving the country to offshore companies.

The proposals put forward by Barney Frank and Jim McDermott need your support if they are going to get past a lot of political and pressure group opposition. So here are seven very good reasons to support the legalisation and regulation of online gambling.

1. From a pure gambling viewpoint, there are more incentives offered to players online than you’d get visiting a brick and mortar casino. If you want lower table minimums and more lucrative odds with bigger payouts, online gambling gives it to you.

2. The safety of gambling online is at its highest when legislated and regulated by government. Failing to support legalised online gambling could keep it unregulated and being everything you don't want it to be, such as wide open to fraud, corruption, intimidation and organised crime.

3. Gambling is a form of entertainment whether done online or not and to be entertained is your right. There is no logical or moral reason for politicians to restrict you from using the Internet to be entertained.

4. It is important to prove to politicians that you possess more knowledge about online gambling's benefits than they do. You also need to show them you are not going to be fooled by any of their lies and political spin.

5. Protect your fundamental right to choose. Never allow the government to take your freedom of choice.

6. Let the government know that online gambling has your support before it decides to take steps to restrict the activity by Internet censorship. Steps that will prevent you accessing any websites that they, and not you, decide are offensive.

7. Gambling online means you don’t need to pay for transportation, accommodation, food, drinks, dealer tips, and all the other expenses you have to pay out to visit a brick and mortar casino, plus you get to play the games you want without having to wait your turn.
