The most important tip to give to any poker player whatever the variation is to be alert and aware of what the other players are doing around you. This includes making sure that you know what all the face-up cards are on the table before anyone folds so you have a fair idea of what is left in the deck and what the probabilities are of certain cards being available to you and to other players for making good hands. If you have a good combination in your staring hand, for say a straight or flush, observing the other door cards will help you to determine if the cards you need are still in the deck and raise the possibilities of hitting your desired hand. If, on the other hand you can see that some or all of the cards you need are already on the table, you can consider your hand dead and fold. With a combination that could make two pair, you should see who has higher cards than you, as well as seeing of the cards you need are still live. When playing low stake tables, it is usual for most players to avoid folding on all but the very worst hands. This can mean you ending up in hands with lots of action and a good heavy pot. When you have strong opening combinations, it is to your advantage to bet aggressively for a good chance to take the pot. |
