Hi there. December's issue of 'Perception', the British science journal reported on a study done by US psychology researcher Rolf Nelson at Wheaton College, Illinois. It suggested online gaming may have a positive influence on the development of the human brain.

Ok, I believe him. Now where'd I leave my PSP for heaven's sake??

I'm sure it helps with decision making and concentration, but I bet it doesn't help you to stay calm when your bankroll takes a big hit!

Yes, I think you are right about this. The brain is better when it is being worked hard, just like exercising any muscle benefits from regular exercise. However, I sometimes wonder if spending too much time on one game can become counter-productive and cause lethargy and tiredness?

Thanks for the replies. I wonder that some online games might be more mind dulling when you play them for too long! But then, so can a two hour marathon of the basic Solitaire game that every PC still comes with...

I'm not so sure that playing slots would qualify for this, especially when you play for hours on end. It can get quite hypnotic after awhile and it sure makes me feel lethargic. Maybe I should switch to some hands of blackjack or something in between games to break it up some.

I think the opposite is true and playing endless games on a computer or playstation actually dulls the brain. That's why all the teenagers you see nowadays walking around like there brains have turned to mush. Oh hang on, teenagers are always like that LOL!

Hi, maybe gaming is good for your brain if you're playing something that is stimulating it, ie something where you have to think things out, as opposed to some mind numbing shoot 'em up game designed to turn nice kids into future thugs with no respect for property or people.
