Mobile gambling just got a real shot in the arm with yesterday’s announcement by Hop-On, the US cell phone developer that they were about to unveil their new mobile gambling software created especially for Android, the Linux based software platform. The venue for this unveiling will be the Consumer Electronic Show which is to be held in Las Vegas next month.

Just released is the annual National Annenberg Survey of Youth, which will be of great interest to those who are worried about gambling amongst the young. The contents of the report itself will certainly raise a few eyebrows and fire up some emotions amongst parents.

Mobile gambling has been touted as the next big thing for around five years now without any major inroads having ever been made into this medium that could represent a potential for huge expansion of the industry. The revenue that could be generated by people playing blackjack, poker or betting on sports results directly from their mobile phones has the potential to be enormous, had it actually taken off.

In a recent interview given by the Interactive Media Entertainment and Gaming Association chairman Joe Brennan Jr., one of the points discussed covered the batch of Internet related legal battles currently being fought. In particular, the spotlight fell on New York’s dispute with online merchant Amazon which, said Brennan, could have a potentially dramatic knock on effect concerning the online gambling and casino industry.
