The biggest and most prestigious poker event on the planet got underway on Friday. The World Series of Poker celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and promises to be bigger and better than ever!

Jack Links Beef Jerky is this year's main sponsor the company mascot, Sasquatch, gave the order to "shuffle up and deal" that got this year's show started. Despite the lack of the usual glitz and glitter afforded by Vegas showgirls and marching bands that portray the event as pure excitement and entertainment. But you couldn't ignore the vibrancy and excitement that was exuded from the Las Vegas Rio's massive Amazon Room as the initial 1,116 poker players took their seats along with the dealers.

In all, there are four scheduled Day Ones each having 3,000 seats and a buy-in price tag of $10,000. The first of these, designated Day 1A was held on Friday 3rd July, the Second, 1B on Saturday 4th, Sunday 5th sees the third or 1C and the last or 1D is on Monday 6th.

The first round of the second day, Day 2A is held on Tuesday 7th and seats the players who survived Day 1A and 1B. The next day, Day 2B seats the players who got through days 1c and 1D. After this, there is a rest day for player who managed to keep some chips.

Day 3 kicks off with all remaining players coming together to tough it out and play their way through five tough levels of poker per day. Here the numbers are constantly whittled down until finally, when Day 8 is reached, at the close of which there is the final table with just 9 players remaining. For maximum television impact, the final day will be played around August 7th.

From an audience perspective, this is the most exciting part of the tournament as the final nine battle away for the coveted winners bracelet and multi million dollar top prize, although each of the final nine is guaranteed to walk away with no less than $1 million for making it to that stage.
