Last weekend two of the world's biggest online poker websites that cater for US players took it upon themselves to try to outdo each other for a place in the Guinness Book of Records. The fight was on between PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker to see who could host the world's biggest online poker tournament.

In the Central American country of Costa Rica, where there are more Internet gambling operators legitimately based than anywhere else in the world, the government is perennially on the lookout for ways to raise additional taxation revenue.

When the UIGEA came into force and the U.S. government made it illegal for online payment processors to accept financial transactions from online gambling websites pertaining to U.S. citizens, many of those payment processors were caught off guard and had funds seized for breaking the rules. One of those payment processors, Account Services Corporation (ASC) which is based in southern California's San Diego suffered seizures of approximately $40 million and is now fighting to get some of it back.

Speculation on the fate of Cashcade, the UK based online gambling group, has been rife for several weeks. Front runners 888 seemed to be the most likely contender, but it was PartyGaming that closed the £100 million deal to become the proud owners of the Internet gambling company.
